What Women Want DVD (2001)

The distinctly old fashioned romantic comedy "What Women Want" slips out onto a thoroughly modern DVD that boasts the kind of bells and whistles that DVD users definitely want.

Picture quality is as you might expect with such a big release: without any glaring flaws and giving any nice widescreen set up exactly what it wants.

The 5.1 sound mix is equally keen to please, lending warmth to the range of Frank Sinatra tracks on offer, and lobbing in a few impressive thunder rolls for the surround speakers.

The stand out extra feature of this disc is its animated menus. All your choices come via a virtual bathroom. It's beautifully designed and real fun to use as you poke about in cupboards, switch on the hairdryer, and generally nose around for all the added treats.

Most of the other extras are only of passing interest, with the interviews and 'making of' featurette providing the same information as the slightly rambling audio commentary. There's also a feature clearly designed for us generally useless men in the form of a quiz as to what women actually want. Score highly enough and you get a reward in the shape of footage from the premiere of the movie. The only question is: is that what men want? Cracking DVD though.
