Ìý Believe it or not, the region 2 release of "The Game" is actually superior to the region 1 disc, in that it's an anamorphic transfer.
What's more, it's a pretty tasty transfer too. A lot of the film takes place in the dark, so it's an excellent way to test your player's mettle, especially in the scene where Michael Douglas find his house daubed in fluorescent paint.
The 5.1 sound mix is a detailed affair, but boy is it quiet. You really need to crank up the amp if you're going to continue your tyranny of frightening noises against your cowering neighbours.
Released back in the dark days of 1998 for Region 2 DVD, "The Game" followed the then strict convention of offering nothing in the way of extra features. This didn't stop Polygram teasing the bewildered DVD novice with an accompanying booklet for "The Game" that proclaimed "DVD's also offer a wide variety of additional materials for specific features. Click additional material" it proudly puffed. Where? There was no additional material.
So, if you think that you're hard done by these days, then just consider those DVD pioneers who sat up with £600 DVD players, and a collection of extras-free discs that consisted of "Disclosure" and "The Game" (for £24!) because nothing else was available.
