From the mid-1950s until his death in 1993, the controversial jazz composer, bandleader, piano player, poet and philosopher Sun Ra led The Arkestra 鈥� an ensemble with an ever-changing name and flexible line-up.
Sun Ra believed his music transcended 鈥渆arthbound limitations by riding the flights of imagination鈥� and his message is that 鈥渁ll of us are free to ride those flights with him if we have the precision and discipline to do so鈥�.
Now under the direction of American avante-garde alto saxophone player Marshall Allen, The Arkestra continue to play eclectic, outrageous and mystifying cosmic jazz to enthusiastic sold-out crowds.
