About This Event
One of Wales’s most loved music and family events - 鶹 Wales’s Proms in the Park – returns this September to Swansea, Singleton Park.
This year, ABC are bringing a taste of 80s perfect pop by performing some of their greatest hits including ‘The Look of Love’ and ‘Poison Arrow’.
A new addition to line-up this year is West End star Sophie Evans. Hailing from Tonypandy, the Welsh singer and actress was picked from over 10,000 hopefuls to appear on 鶹 series Over the Rainbow and after being named runner-up, she was subsequently cast by Andrew Lloyd Webber as Dorothy in “Wizard of Oz”. More recently, she has been fulfilling her dream role as Glinda in “Wicked”.
Already on the bill are baritone and winner of this year’s 鶹 Cardiff Singer of the World competition Andrei Kymach and 22 year old saxophonist Xhosa Cole, winner of 鶹 Young Jazz Musician in 2018 - who will all perform with the 鶹 National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, conducted by Robert Ames.
Leading everyone through the evening will be The One Show’s Alex Jones and 鶹 Radio 1’s Steffan Powell.
The show will transport the audience into outer space, with music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings including Also ‘Sprach Zarathustra’ by R. Strauss - made famous in 2001: A Space Odyssey, John Williams’ theme from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and ‘Lake in the Moonlight’ by Tchaikovsky.
Proms in the Park is part of the annual spectacular culmination of two months of music-making at the 鶹 Proms, as the world-famous Last Night celebrations spill out from London's Royal Albert Hall and thousands of people come together at venues across the UK to be part of the magic of the Last Night.
