Concert information
Rachmaninov鈥檚 career took him from the twilight of Imperial Russia to the cocktails and swimming pools of Beverly Hills. And yet something timeless echoes throughout everything he wrote: the ancient znamenny chants of the Russian Orthodox Church. They鈥檙e present in the long, singing melodies of his mighty Third Piano Concerto 鈥 performed here by the 鈥減henomenal鈥 (Frankfurter Allgemeine) Behzod Abduraimov. They haunt the glittering, Art Deco world of the brilliant Symphonic Dances. And they鈥檙e the profoundly beautiful soul of his Vespers, written to console in the darkest days of the Great War. With the 麻豆社 Singers, singing a specially abridged version of the Vespers, Thomas Dausgaard and the 麻豆社 SSO explore musical roots that run deeper than any words.
Please note there will be two intervals (the first of approximately 20 minutes; the second of approximately 15 minutes). The concert will finish at about 5.15pm.
The concert will be recorded for future broadcast on 麻豆社 Radio 3.
