Concert Information
Conductor Ludovic Morlot joins the orchestra for a live 麻豆社 Radio 3 broadcast and a double serving of Beethoven, with Mozart in between.
Today鈥檚 Beethoven pieces share a connection to the Josephst盲dter Theater in Vienna and its former director, Karl Friedrich Hensler.
The Consecration of the House: Overture, was written late in the composer鈥檚 career and commissioned in honour of the reopening of the theatre in 1822, whilst Gratulations Minuet was composed as a surprise for Hensler and premiered the evening before his 鈥榥ame-day鈥.
Mozart鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 9 was written when the composer was only 21 years old and is today delivered by young German pianist Elisabeth Brau脽. Called "one of the greatest wonders of the world鈥 by Austrian pianist Alfred Brendel, the work is highly regarded by critics.
