About This Event

From its galloping beginning, Walton's first symphony bristles with energy and, despite its darker inner movements, finishes with cinematic pomp and glory. Bruch's shares the same dance and drive, with one the most beautiful slow movements in the repertoire. Beethoven, master of rhythm and drama, sets the tone with his feisty overture.

Walton’s First Symphony
Hear from Â鶹Éç NOW’s Head of Artistic Planning, Meurig Bowen, why he thinks William Walton’s first symphony, written in a blaze of youthful inspiration in the 1930s, is one of the greatest symphonies ever written. Not just in the 20th century, and not just by a British composer either!
