Barbican, London
Composed in the shadow of the Second World War, Britten鈥檚 Sinfonia da Requiem opens Dalia Stasevska鈥檚 first concert at the Barbican as the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 Principal Guest Conductor.
Following Stravinsky鈥檚 Symphony of Psalms - a devout musical gesture, re-imagining religious rituals on a symphonic scale, for which the 麻豆社SO are joined by the 麻豆社 Singers, they complete the concert with Rachmaninov鈥檚 exhilarating Symphonic Dances. Although composed just three years before his death, it pulses with exhilarating rhythmic energy, embracing jazz, plainchant and the waltz.
