The 1980s was such a fertile decade for British pop that it’s no surprise to find contemporary bands looking back to the decade for ideas and inspiration. Zibra - Sam Battle, Russell Jones and Ben Everest - are influenced by the great electronic groups of that era, like Depeche Mode, Cabaret Voltaire and Human League, and they look the part, too. Donatella Versace is a fan, as well as the just-as-fabulous Huw Stephens.
Two songs in particular - Heartache and Chlorine - are largely responsible for starting tongues wagging about the band. Â鶹Éç Introducing in Cambridgeshire loved both tracks, supported them, then in the run up to festival appearances at Field Day in London and Glastonbury, the band dropped the excellent Great White Shark from a new EP, EP2000. Expect them to rule the British underground for a while, then do what all Depeche Mode-like bands do - become massive in Germany.
