A Tempest Looms

It almost seems demeaning to talk of London’s Kate Tempest in relation to just her debut album, 2014’s Everybody Down. She’s also an award-winning poet and playwright who’s worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Old Vic and Yale University. Everybody Down, produced by Dan Carey, was simply another vehicle for Tempest to exhibit her extraordinary gifts for rhymes and wordplay, and it was huge critical success – securing a Mercury Prize nomination.

Tempest first performed at Glastonbury doing spoken word in 2013, before retuning in 2014 as an MC. She plays this year after a stand-out set at the 6 Music Festival in February and a session for Gilles Peterson. In an election year, her state-of-the-nation rhymes have never seemed more pertinent; time for everybody to get down with this bright talent.
