Modern Torch Songs to Light the Way

Booking Jessie Ware for a festival must be a risky business. If the weather holds, the sun shines and everyone is feeling the love, her appearance will be a wonderful and tender musical event in the midst of a hectic festival environment. If it rains, and everyone is feeling the strain, those mournful tones, those lovelorn songs, could easily be responsible for an outbreak of very public sobbing.

This is Jessie’s second visit to Glastonbury, having played the John Peel Stage in 2013 (it didn’t rain) in support of her first album Devotion. Since then she has carved a strong niche for herself with worked with Nicki Minaj on her album The Pinkprint, released the impressive follow-up Tough Love - containing the hit songs Tough Love and Say You Love Me - and most recently, brought a quivering intensity to Nick Jonas’s Jealous in the Live Lounge. Umbrellas at the ready? Let’s do this.
