Written for his dear friend Ferdinand David, Mendelssohn鈥檚 Violin Concerto oozes charm and elegance. Brimming with lyricism and structural inventiveness, it is little wonder that this concerto has firmly established itself as one of the most popular and best loved of all concertos. To perform we鈥檙e delighted to welcome rising star and multi award winner, Ellinor D鈥橫elon.
In a nod to his 200th birthday year Bruckner鈥檚 Fourth Symphony takes centre stage in the second half of this concert, conducted by our Principal Guest Conductor, Jaime Mart铆n. Spectacular horn solos soar against shimmering strings, funeral marches weave with German chorales and the drive of hunting music leans into gentle trios reminiscent of Haydn or Beethoven in this colourful symphony.
