About This Event
In this afternoon鈥檚 live 麻豆社 Radio 3 broadcast with conductor Clemens Schuldt, we hear music from Beethoven, Haydn, Stravinsky and Mozart. Beethoven's dramatic and powerful Coriolan Overture is a dark and expressive work written for Heinrich Joseph von Collin's 1804 tragedy Coriolan 鈥 a musical portrait of a heroic and unsettled Roman leader. We also hear another dramatic work this afternoon - Mozart's Symphony No. 26 - a suspenseful and romantic symphony in three movements.
Providing a contrast in mood is Haydn's bright and colourful Trumpet Concerto. A melodic showcase of the instrument鈥檚 ability, this piece was written for Anton Weidinger 鈥 a good friend of Haydn 鈥 but today we welcome Simon H枚fele as our soloist.
Today also includes Stravinsky鈥檚 Pulcinella Suite, an extraordinary and glittering early example of Neoclassism in music.
In this afternoon鈥檚 concert 鈥 please be aware that the use of smartphones will be encouraged to allow audience to experience an exciting development for the 麻豆社 Philharmonic.
