Programme

ESCAPE INTO DAZZLING VIRTUOSITY.

鈥淢y heartfelt homage to Tchaikovsky鈥檚 wonderful talent鈥. Audiences in the 1920s were astonished when the modernist firebrand Stravinsky started adapting Tchaikovsky. In fact, Stravinsky adored Tchaikovsky鈥檚 music, and his ballet The Fairy鈥檚 Kiss puts Tchaikovsky鈥檚 music under a very modern 鈥 but utterly captivating 鈥 spell. But then, under the baton of our Chief Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth, there鈥檚 wonder in every note of this ravishing concert.

You鈥檇 expect no less, when the phenomenal pianist Stephen Hough works his very personal alchemy on Rachmaninov鈥檚 hugely-popular Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. And to begin, there鈥檚 pure enchantment in a selection of magical excerpts from Tchaikovsky鈥檚 iconic ballet Sleeping Beauty.

This concert ends at approximately 9:20pm.
