Concert Information

Tom McKinney and Linton Stephens present a live concert from the 麻豆社 Philharmonic and friends, celebrating diversity in music, from MediaCity Salford. The concert offers a rare opportunity to enjoy music by Nathaniel Dett, Margaret Bonds, Julia Perry, Ali Osman, Kikuko Kanai and Joseph Bologne. The 麻豆社 Philharmonic are conducted by Ben Gernon.

The concert also features piano music performed by Clare Hammond and music for strings performed by the Levare and Elmore Quartets.

This concert is part of project collaboration between 麻豆社 Radio 3 and UK Research and Innovation鈥檚 (UKRI) Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to celebrate and give recognition to historical classical composers from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Launched in autumn 2020, the scheme aims to expand the breadth and diversity of what is accepted as belonging to the classical music canon. It also aims to uncover more about the lives and work of composers who have not had the public recognition that their work deserves.
