As the end of the board is nigh, Id like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the wonderful members on here.
Ive had help on numerous occasions with my tree and have also been able to help others with look ups etc, which I have enjoyed doing.

A few years ago you were all just 'screen names' to me but I have now met many of the regulars and class you as friends. You have been with me through the ups and downs that have been my life for the last four years - the saga of the knee, the fridge chasing incident smiley - yikes finding a nun in my family, the loss of my MiL, OH being away from home in his birth country, my daughter's going through college and uni and lately my first chick flying the nest and my dad's illness. You have all kept me going through the bad times and I hope I have been able to bring a smile to some faces along the way too. Thank You smiley - hug

Hopefully many of you will join us on the myfamily site jc has organised and also on the facebook page for Â鶹Éç evictees - this is a private group so if you would like to join please pm me on Rootschat and I will give you the details and add you.

I hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas and a very happy and healthy 2012.

May all your brickwalls crumble and your trees grow upwards and outwards.

    Jen smiley - biggrin

    Hell Jen,

Can I join you in your thanks?

When I first joined this site I could barely use a PC (still haven't mastered it)smiley - doh and have had so much help in sorting things out. Lots of help from past members as well as present ones with my family tree. Not sure that I shall want to go wider,(mine is so wide it really needs lopping but I am reluctant to do that as it often throws up something closer), I certainly have a bit of room to go taller though.

I have also had support through my moans and groan, kitchen problems, neighbours etc not forgetting my rellie. OH has also felt that he knows most of you through your messages when he has not been well, had a Birthday or it has been our Anniversary.

You have certainly raised a few giggles from me and I hope you continue to do that on the new board. I have also appreciated your help and support privately.

HAPPY CHRISTMA EVERYONE AND A VERY HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.smiley - crackersmiley - llabwons Here's a toast to you allsmiley - bubbly

I have to add to this thread and thank all those who have helped me in the last 5+ years Jowin, Grumpyjaywit, JC, Kalady, Sheron and Biggles to name a few.
I have learnt so much from all of you and hope that I have helped others in return.
I have lots of happy memories of laughs we have had along the way, and who can forget the stories of Bash and Paulas Eliza.
I now spend most of my time over the road on the Restoration board but still liked to drop in occcasionally and see all my friends here .
Thanks again and Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm sorry to see this site go. I've learned a lot on here from seeing other people's answers to questions.

It's a shame. Hope to be in touch a little bit elswhere, although I don't do as much now.

I was wondering how I could phrase my addition to this thread without having Paula scurrying under the desk with a blanket over her head as I really need to mention THAT name, not Eliza....who may now become famous...but that other name.......... WEBB.
The members of this board solved the strange case of the "Changing Surname" and without the members I would still be wondering if my dad had been deposited here in Sheffield without any predecessors at all!

I have made new friends not just on the screen but in real life.

You have all shared in the life and times of my family and I have shared yours.
I hope we will all continue in our new home, but feeling comfortable here has been rather special.

May I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best wishes for a grand and fruitful New Year

My interest in family history goes back a long time. I started working through the records at Somerset House, then to St. Catherine's House. Perhaps some of you were there on those rare Saturdays that I got off work!

After that came microfiche at the local history records office at county hall.

Now we can sit at our own computers and search the internet. I, too will add my thanks to those who had subscriptions to places I had never heard of, and came up with the answers. I still have a few brick walls, but hopefully they will come tumbling down some day!

It's been great fun watching the stories unwind, and hearing of successes. Again THANK YOU to all who have been involved.

I feel this is an end of an era really, quite sad. When I first joined the bbc it was in the early months of 2005 and have been so grateful for the help I have received since then. Like others I did my research at St Catherine's, I had heard of Somerset House but never got there, after that it was heaving those big heavy book down from the shelves at The Family Records Centre, London. In the early days I had subscriptions to sites but over the last few years I have wound this hobby up and have just been concentrating on one or two individuals, so again I thank smiley - ta all those people who did look ups for me without questions smiley - huh and will fondly be remembered.

So a final smiley - cheers to everyone, good health and good luck to you all.

And I have to say very many thanks to Edna ("clematised") for those two threads she started: Useful Websites and Free Websites - which have helped me, and no doubt many, many, other searchers - ENORMOUSLY.

The least I can do is bang them up to the top again, sadly, for the last time.

Tagging onto the most recent post ...

Me too, I wanted to thank all the helpful posters on this message board - I was always an infrequent visitor, and I posted using a different Â鶹Éç iD, but I've always valued Family Trees as a resource and have it bookmarked for future reference.

Wherever you migrate to, collectively or individually, I wish you all well - oh, and please do carry on offering support and advice to noobs and the perpetually befuddled. Sometimes it's only on occasions like this that appreciation can be (inadequately) expressed ;~)

Season's Greetings to one and all, and here's to 2012 and the future from what is already the past.

May I also add my bit?
As an antipodean, I have been very grateful for the help I've had on this site over the years with my research of English ancestry? I'm sure those who were involved will remember the help given on my Frederick Button search, and MM's wonderful breakthrough. And there was my wonderful Nunley's Carousel thread as well others for which I must say thanks to all who helped.

I've been glad to help out at times with research for those who wanted information from Australia.

But most of all, I want to say thankyou for the friendships made on here. I've only met one of you in person..... and what a lovely afternoon that was.......but there are so many of you that I count among my friends. We've helped each other, chatted together, "played" together, laughed together and cried together. Let's hope we will continue to do so elsewhere.

May I add my thanks for the help I have received, the wonderful "mysteries" which have been unlocked for others (Bashful Rodgers and the like) and the many entertaining and interesting stories which have been posted. I have learned so much just reading the posts and looking at how others solve their problems in family history research.

This board, as a resource in itself, will be a great loss to our band of family historians.

Good luck to everyone in their future searches - hopefully I will sump into you on other boards. Hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Looking back over my discussions since I joined in 2006 I see my third one related to my own problem with the infamous Webbs. Calm down, calm down!

Anyway I would like to add my own thanks to everyone who has helped me in my searches over the years. This Board has been invaluable and the first port of call, I'm sure, for everyone who came to family history after watching WDYTYA. So we move on, get together at our new locations and bars and hope the newbies find us to share their questions and stories.

Happy Christmas and a successful New Year to you all.
