can you tell me why for the last three years since we moved to dorset i have tried to grow fritillaria. they grow to a height of about 6 inchs then stop growing and start wilt and fade. can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong

It's possible that they are rotting because the ground is too wet.
Do you remember to what depth in the soil you planted them? If you buried them then they might be exhausted by the time they reach the surface. There were plenty on show at the RHS plant fair recently.
Can't be potted that deep considering the display?
