I was delighted with the marvelous display my pennisetum fireworks put on last year. They were well cared for - but show no signs of shoots so far this Spring. All the other grasses in my garden are "on the way". Is there still time? Are they late developers perhaps? I do hope so.
Thanks for all the help given. Hope we'll all meet up again. I've decided to join the Gardener's World forum.
Give it some more time, until mid-May at least. If it was hit by frost it may be late.
Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks' is a half hardy perennial, although some suppliers list it as hardy, which is naughty, others describe it as 'slightly tender'. It won't survive the temperatures we experienced here in Lincolnshire over the past two winters.
I have a Blood grass Red Baron (Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra') which is similar in hardiness, and I lift it in autumn and overwinter it in my cold greenhouse.

Many thanks for the info. I'll wait until mid-May as suggested and then, if nothing appears, treat myself to some of the grasses you suggest.
