crocus in the lawn

    can somebody advise me if its ok to cut the leaves.The tips are brownish but the majority of the leaf is still green.
    If its not the right time what in general terms would be the 'safe' period so as not to stop the bulbs from flowering next year.

    Give it another couple of weeks-you could be ok now-but err on the side of caution-let them die back a bit more is my advice.

    They need at least 6 weeks after flowering finishes to build up the energy reserves for next year's flowers. Watering with rose or tomato fertiliser would help the process as would scattering pelleted chicken manure as long as it rains soon afterwards. These will, of course, also help the grass grow so you may need to do it for the whole lawn to avoid patchiness in the growth.

    Whatever you do, do not apply a spring weed and feed lawn mix until the crocus foliage has completely died back.
