Hi,
My garden is becoming overrun with bluebells. They appear to self seed and spread everywhere and more come up each year. They are growing in the middle of established plant and the bulbs are very deep and difficult to remove. They are a real nuisance.
Is there an easy way to get rid of them? The only thing I can think of is to treat the leaves with one of the paint on weed killers, but I am not sure if that will also kill the bulbs.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Ben
If they're the native bluebells, advertise them as free to anyone who takes them away as they are very sought after. If tehy're the Spanish ones or corss bred then painting or spraying witha systemic weedkiler based on glyphosate will do the job but you may need several application. Be sure to protect plants you wish to keep before application.
Spanish bluebells are a nightmare and you will never eradicate them. I have pulled hundreds of bulbs up (when I can dig them out), put weedkiller on the leaves, cut the flowers off to stop them seeding, but nothing stops them.
I hate them with a vengeance!
You can weed them out, just as you would with any other "weed" ie a flower where you don`t want it.
