I planted cosmos and calendula seeds in trays on Sunday. Have I done it too early?
No-just about the right time.
No-just about the right time. Thank goodness for that. Someone told me they would go all leggy.
Hello,
I love calendulas. I sowed some a few weeks ago in a cold frame & they are doing very well. Great seeds, great plants.
The ones that have been sowed directly in the ground are sprouting really well.
I have some in the garden that have survived from last year & growing, thanks to the very mild winter
They will only go leggy if they do not get enough light. The need for good light is the most important thing for seedlings at this time of year - as we are having good sunshine at present your seedlings should be OK. If they do look as if they are straining to the light, turn the pot a quarter turn every day, and make sure they are in the lightest place possible - this does not necessarily mean hot sunshine which can burn baby leaves. Frosted glass is ideal, hence the bathroom if facing the right direction is often the best place for seedlings - provided they don't get too much soap, shaving cream or bubble bath on them!!
i have been covering my seeds with a fleece at night just incase we get a frost
