I have lots of lupins in my garden but they are being destroyed by green bugs, like greenfly but much larger. No matter what I treat them with they are resilient and are slowly destroying the plants. Looking online I seem to need something called Heptenophos but have no idea what contains this or where to get it from. Any ideas?

Are you sure that these are not lupin aphids? They are pale greeny-white, and much larger than normal greenfly. Provado Ultimate Bug Killer will take care of them; make sure that you spray both sides of the leaves for the fastest effect.

Sounds like lupin aphids to me. They're like giant greenfly (but not quite as huge as the giant willow aphid, which is revolting).

You'd think with all the ladybirds there are aound, aphids wouldn't stand a chance, but these things each look like quite a hearty meal for a ladybird. Spraying is your only answer - either a spray that says it will kill aphids, or you could try spraying with diluted washing-up liquid, which will help but will need several applications.

the ladybirds need to get on with playing Happy families. Their larvae are much more voracious aphid eaters than the adults.

Apparently, this north american aphid seems to have little attraction for ladybirds and other aphid predators and parasites. Bizarre, when you consider what a good size meal they'd make.
