Some of my daffodils have come up blind. The leaves are healthy but there are no flowers. I've noticed some of the roadside daffodils are the same here in West Yorkshire. Others in my garden are flowering fine. Has anyone had the same problem & do you know why? I also want to know if I leave them to die back as usual hoping they will come up next year with flowers or do I dig them up and throw them away.

There have been a few discussions on this topic recently and in my own garden 50% roughly have not flowered and usually have been so reliable

The consensus seems to be that last years warm dry spell that occurred around April -similar to the current conditions only obviously later- was the contributing factor and the the embryo flower did not form before the plant went dormant.

The solution might be to water -if you can-and feed and with good fortune the plants will be back to normal next year

The only good thing is that you are not alone

Thank thedogcody, your info & links were very useful. Some of the daffodils that flowered this year in my garden were under the hanging baskets that were on a watering timer from a water butt so the ground they were in kept moist in the dry weather last year. Thank again.
