I have three bulbs from Christmas that I was thinking of planting out but wonder how deep you need to plant them? Three times their depth will mean I will have to dig to China! Is that what I have to do?
Twice the depth of the bulb is always a good guide-so roughly 4 inches of soil on top-not quite China-more like Swindon
Yes, cover them with twice the bulb's height of soil. It doesn't matter that you'll be covering part of the leaves.
Thank you .
Yes, they do well after a year or two, they need that long to recover from the forcing process. They will not be as closely flowered as the artificial growing conditions made them as indoor plants, but make perfectly good garden plants, with plenty of perfume. We have been doing this for years, and are now running out of places in which to put them .............
PS Do you live in an ocean trench to find China after 9 inches? If not, 4 inches will do - and with the mulch that will be fine!
It might have been the local takeaway I dug into.
