I almost think so: all those fat buds full of promise and things growing an inch a day, the garden is not congested, things haven't been battered flat by wind and rain, there aren't things past their best or foliage dying down and at this stage there are no disappointments!
I don't mind having some things 'gone over'. In February my lovely Wintersweet had gone over, but crocuses, hellebores, cyclamen and snowdrops were at their best. Now they have gone over, but my early narcissi and muscari Azura are at their best. In fact, there is not a month in the year when some of my plants are not at their best. In November and December my cornus Midwinter Fire is stunning, as are my pyracanthas. And autumn is lovely with the dahlias and sedums having their last hurrah and my sorbuses in their lovely autumn colour. And my viburnum x bodnantense Dawn is flowering away through the worst of the winter, from October until march, lovely fragrance.
I suppose May is the best time of all in absolute terms, but i just adore those few plants that strut their stuff in the dark cold winter days when i need uplifting. I hold them in the highest regard of all.
