    Hello Everyone,

I'm going to have a big re-jig of my main bed, as I don't like the placing of my plants as they are currently, and I have some more to add. I'd like to pep up the soil a bit to give everything a bit of a boost before replacing plants, but I'm not sure what in particular I should be digging in at this time of year. I'm not moving any of the plants that need ericacious soil, so thats not an issue. My soil is generally clay, although this bed did have some regular compost and top soil added I think, when it was created before we bought. Most of the plants in the bed are regular shrubs and perennials.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Yvie

Depends on what you want to do!

Do you want to improve the soil if so then add copiuos amounts of farmyard manure i.e. add something that will add humus to the soik and break up the clay.

This I would say is the best 'long term' approach.

If you only want to feed the plants then add a slow release fertiliser such as Fish, Blood and Bone, or anything ekse with bone in it e.g. Bonemeal.

    An alternative is 'Growmore'

    Hi Tee Gee,

Yes, it's definately to improve the soil, so animal poo it is then! I'm presuming that the GC bags are well rotted?

    Many thanks, Yvie
