Today I fished a horrible bloated frog out of my little pond. I suspect the corpse has been there some time as I thought it was just vegetation until the pond cleared in the recent rain. I am now wondering if the pond water is polluted and will harm my two goldfish. They seem OK at present. Any thoughts on this ?

jee usually frogs blow up when they are stuck under the ice in winter so they have probably been in there some time, they have never harmed my fish but i do have a filter with a UV bulb which gets rid of all the nasty s. I would say leave it nothings happened yet and you said its been in there a few weeks, if you were thinking of replacing the water then defiantly don't this will probably cause more harm to your fish and plants.

I had thought of replacing just some of the water with rain water out of the water butt. It's surprising that the fish survived and not the frog. I did keep a hole de-iced with the help of an old saucepan and hot water.

There would defiantly be no point in doing a part water change as if there was a disease it would only mix in anyway however i am fairly confident there is no disease and that the frog was just stuck under the ice earlier in the year. Using your water butt to fill the pond is defiantly a good idea and is better than using tap water, but in this case i wouldn't bother wasting the water and save it and use it on the plants when we have this " Drought "
