i'm planting out some young Delphinium plants shortly. for me i think they are the most beautiful of garden flowers. could you please give tips on successful growing and whens the best time to divide them, thanks.
Have a look at this link for cultivation tips - although it's talking about a particular cultivar, it applies to others too:
They're best divided when not in growth, so early spring or autumn. You will need to ease them out with a fork and then divide the clump. Re-plant immediately, and water in well afterwards.
You will need to wait until they are a reasonable size to do this, say 3-4 years old.
