Last year I boiught a new patio rose which flowered beautiful apricot roses. I have been out to begin pruning today and it is totally covered in green and whitefly. Should I spray then prune, or do both together? Any suggestions please
A bit confused-prune- remove the prunings- then spray the rose-I usually find if you are lucky you only need to do the spraying once- then let the ladybirds etc.take over
If you are feeling mean kill the aphids on the prunings- just in case they find a way back again ,
You're likely to be seeing two different types of aphid, one green, one white, not whitefly.
In any case, I agree - prune the rose and then spray it thoroughly. Unless you are lucky, you will probably have to spray it several times more in the summer.
