In my recently inherited established garden I have growing amongst the raspberry canes a thick mat of grass. It is the sort that looks like dark green cotton threads with thickly matted, brown thread-like roots impossible to pull up from the compacted and wet earth. I have been slowly digging up each raspberry cane and removing as much of this grass as I can. In my mind this is worse than removing couch grass. I wonder whether anyone can tell me the name of this grass. I have been gardening for most of my life and have never known what it is called.
I can't tell without a photo, but I'd glyphosate the lot. Now is a great time to do it because the canes should not have sprouted any new opening buds so can't come to any harm from the glyphosate. I did my MIL's raspberry / blackcurrant / gooseberry patch yesterday.
