Use of lime tree chippings as mulch ?

    The council have recently pollarded lime trees in my road and i begged about 10 compost bags full of the chippings . Should i let them mature or use now and if so for what ? i mainly grow veg

    Personally I would leve them in their bags to rot down

    To put them in the soil now may extract too much nitrogen that otherwise your veg will need / take from the soil.

    You could consider using them as a mulch once your veg plants are established.

    This would conserve moisture, keep weeds under control and ,they will continue to rot down prior to winter digging.

    Then once dug in at the back end of the year they will have around another six months to completely rot down.

    As I say; this is a personal point of view, others may differ!...Tg
