I have opened a thread on "garden inspiration" on garden pictures and thought if anyone wants to get a plant identified to post it on there rather separately- let others see it and identify it for you
That thread is here
If you didn't know you could post pictures or how to do it then that is here
All contributions welcome
just bumping this up
good idea!
This is an excellent idea. dog.cody your contributions to this board are much appreciated, you are always ready to help people and suggest new ideas to make the board better. Thankyou.
Agreed! dogcody seems to be the eternal, waggy-tailed optomist,
Thanks all three of you-one tries or is very trying
I'm assuming that was in one of your more serious contemplative moments Geoff
What a woebegone expression - but how lovely
My dog has seen this picture and is in lovexxxxx
Pushing this to the top again for any new board members-or anybody else
bumping up again
How to post pictures-
After you have taken a photo and loaded it onto your computer, you will need to open an account on photobucket.com and load your photos on their website.. Then you have to have 2 windows or 2 tabs open at the same time. In the first one get up the picture in Photobucket. In the second one get up these message boards and start to write your message, up to the point where you want the link to be.
Then click back on the Photobucket window, and right click on the url at the top (the bit starting , and choose Copy from the list.
Now click back on the message board window, right click on your message and choose Paste. The link should appear there.
If you Preview your message before Posting it, you can click on the link and check it works. Click the Back button to get you back to your Preview, then you can Post your message.
There are other photo sharing sites that do exactly the same thing but also be careful that no private information if disclosed i.e photos of friends and families or a location you do not wish to share.
Wow Geoff! How did you manage to get the hosts to give you a sticky topic? I thought they'd all gone awol. Do you know something we don't?
Lorea
Sometimes it is not what you know, but who you know, and if you ask nicely
Your idea has taken off-you will be acknowledged in despatches but I will take all the credit
Hmmmm....interesting.....you're obviously in with the higher-ups. I also hear that Monty speaks very highly of you. Play your cards right, you never know. I gladly hand over all the credit to you, after all, what's an idea if no-one puts it into action? (I think I'm quoting Seneca there, or Alan Titchmarsh, can't remember which). What is really puzzling me though, is what an animal defence organisation is doing acting as host on these boards...

I shall try these two plant's on here, they are Perennials, this will be the third season
Thanks
Rain
The second one would seem to me to be aubretia
The first one may be a plain leaved Heuchera or Heucherella and I agree with TDC that the second is Aubretia.
Identification help please!
I would be ever so grateful if anyone could please identify these shrubs in my garden?
I moved to this house last summer and I just cut everything back in the autumn as I didn't know what I was doing, and now it's all shooting back up and looking shabby. Many thanks for any ideas in advance.

Thanks once again, I really appreciate your help.

Hi All.
This just popped up in my garden amongst some bulbs that have yet to flower. I think it might be a Scilla since I planted one I dug up from my fathers garden somewhere around there. Its taken it two years to pop up. The only thing I think speaks against it is the multiple flowers on the stalks. I thought the had only one.
Could the 5th one be an hortensia?
Some of the other looks like this red, ping and white plant you see all over Bristol where I live. I think it is supposed to have come over with the Roman soldiers' sandals!
Rachel
I think-not 100% sure-that number 2 is a buddleia growing up through something else
3 is a Pieris
I think you are right. I had selfseded ones in my garden and between the railing down to my flat!
Hi, Rachel, No 1 is Fuschia, No 2 Buddlea, No 3 Pieris, No 4 Centranthus ruber (often called Valerian, but wrongly named, No 5, not sure but could be a lilac, Need more leaves,
Sue
Hi Rain, I love these idents. Can't always do them though but like to have a go.
I reckon the first one is Doronicum, does it have yellow daisy type flowers?
And your second is definitely aubretia as Geoff says.

I can't remember what colour it is Penny but I shall check when it comes into flower. I will do a label for the Aubretia in permanent ink as I forget what I have in the garden, the little grey cells are not what they used to be.

If they are shooting now as Rachel says can't see how that one can be a fuchsia ??
I think your shrub no. 1 is a Phygelius. If the flowers are creamy yellow, then probably 'Yellow Trumpet' variety. If reddish then 'African Queen'.
Geoff, of course, I should have thought of that. I just assumed it was a pic from last year but then I didn't pay any attention to the primulas. So I think I agree with the Phygelius suggestion.
Sue
Hello Rachel,
Sorry, I don't know number 1, or 4 of your plants, but I am sure that No.2 is Buddleia,as Geoff said, No.3 is Pieris and No.5 is a White Lilac. The lilac is just the same as my white one, the other one I have is purple, but the leaves are much reddier. Hope this helps a little. Good luck with the garden this year.
Hello, I m a new member to this site and I think it's great
I want to join in with posing pics onto the site but I don't see why I have to join Photobucket to do so.
I know that I have a response to this but still don't understand why I have to join another site ie Photobucket and have my pics broadcast to the world in order to contrbute to this.
Surely by only allowing this way of posting is the Â鶹Éç sponsering or advocating a particular site or service?
I am and have been a member of other sites which allow direct uploading, so why I can't I do it here? I am a member of another Â鶹Éç gardening site where I can upload pics directly.
I'm just stating my opinion & mean no offence to anyone on this board or posters on this thread
hollie-hock
As has been explained that is the only way-don't quite get the world comment-if you post on here, it is a public forum anyone, anywhere in the world can see them whatever method is used
That is just the way it is and if you are expecting a response from anyone from inside the Â鶹Éç-you will have a very long wait-there will not be one and these boards will not change the way they are operated.
They are funded by the Â鶹Éç that have had huge budget restrictions and will not spend money updating them.
We are lucky to have this messageboard as the majority of the others have been shut down.
We are on the whole a friendly and helpful bunch and frankly I do not understand your reticence.
They are just garden pictures after all
Hello thedogcody,
Thanks for your swift reply.
I wasn't expecting a response from the Â鶹Éç or expecting a change in the way this board is operated, I was simply expressing my opinion about how I can contribute to this thread.
I have no interest about the huge budget restrictions etc, that doesn't bother me in the slightest.
My "world" comment meant that if you upload all your photos to Photo Bucket then all the world can see them. Where as if you can upload particuar pics directly onto a site then only those that you choose to upload can be viewed. Those then maybe viewed by everyone.
You obviously (as a starter of this this thread) are a great fan of Photo Bucket and promote and advocate the use of it. Where as I know nothing about it.
My reticence comes from having to join, register and then remember another password in order to share my photos of my plants, where as on other sites you can upload directly. This is simply my observation.
I have been reading this board for many months & since joining have found members responses to have been friendly & helpful.
Surely as a new member I can give my opinions?
hollie -hock
Of course you are allowed an opinion.
You asked why you couldn't post pictures direct and I explained that is how the board works ,it is not likely to be upgraded because that will cost money and the Â鶹Éç will not spend that on these boards -I thought you wanted to know that?
I am not a fan of photobucket as such and there other sites that do exactly the same-it is just on this board the majority of posters use photobucket.
You do not have to load up ALL your photos to the site just the ones you wish others to see-I thought that was made clear in the "how to " posting -perhaps it isn't?
As with anything nowadays you have to register and input a password-I do not see that as a major issue.
You say as well you can upload your pictures direct on another Â鶹Éç gardening site-I cannot find this and would be interested as to where this is.
If you look through the March Garden Gallery you will only see pictures of people's gardens-that is what the thread is all about.
I hope this has cleared this up for you and dispelled any worries you may have
hollie-hock can I ask you what is the other Â鶹Éç gardening site?
Cannot expand on your picture at all but that is a field of poppies.
Hi Hollie-hock,
If you make your photobucket album "private", then the world cannot see your photos - would that help?
Swedboy, if your question hasn't been answered yet, it's scilla sibirica - which doesn't actually grow in Siberia, in spite of the name.
There is now an April Garden Gallery-so if you want plant identification can you please post them there or on this thread for all to see then they won't disappear down the page
April Garden Gallery
Swedboy, if your question hasn't been answered yet, it's scilla sibirica - which doesn't actually grow in Siberia, in spite of the name. Thank you AlinaW. I am quite surprised it has taken it so long to show up. I planted it about two years ago and thought it had died.
Hi everyone I think I may have an infestation of Wild Garlic ( see photo below)
If it is, what are my best options for getting rid of it?
Identification help please!

No 3 is pretty like to know myself.
JohannaA
3 is a Pieris
keeleykins, the leaves don't look broad enough for wild garlic. Does the plant smell like garlic?
They look like white bluebells to me.
Sue
I agree. They can be treated with a glyphosate-based weedkiller, but you will have to add a drop or two of washing-up liquid to the mix to help it to stick to the smooth leaves.
Hi: any id for this shrub/small tree please? It's currently in flower in gardens in East Sussex on both clay and chalk soils. Thanks
Hi Calendula,
Funny enough I have a Tree that looks very similar to yours in leaf colour and bud shape, that I was going to ask the name of too! Great minds think alike!
Here is a picture of mine taken in 2010. It is approx 15-20 feet tall, drops it's leaves in the autumn and buds up and flowers, as in the photo. It is planted amongst our apple trees and I think someone once told me it was a kind of apple. Maybe I'm imagining that?! If it is, it hasn't fruited as long as we've been here, two and a half years.
So, does your Tree blossom like mine? If so, maybe someone can answer the question for both of us?
Yvie
On 'December in your garden', Muddyfork has suggested it may be a type of Magnolia, but doesn't know which. Are we getting any closer, d'you think?
