Hi, we planted a hedge last year, a evergreen chrisalinni (sic) after our escallonia died. I've tried to keep on top of the weeds by putting down the black membrane up but they are thriving. We have had a very mild winter here in south west Ireland and so haven't been killed off. I tried mulching a small section with bark mulch and although it did help a bit, it is a long section that has to be done and it would be costly! Any ideas?

Any ideas? Hi scotty75, the plants you bought sounds to me like they are griselinia. They are good for maritime areas, salt laden winds etc. As for the weeds I would use roundup. I would strim off as much weed as possible to weaken it then spray with roundup when it starts to regrow. Respray after 2 or 3 weeks if needed to catch weeds that were missed. Hope this helps
Thanks Edbot for the reply. THe round up won't harm the hedge? Brilliant if that is the case! Will give it a try!
