my 10 year old camelia bush which is in a large container and was about to flower was caught by the frost and all the flowers and leaves are turning brown.I have never protected it before and I'm sure that last winter was just as cold but this year with the flowers coming so early due to the mild january it looks as if it may be dying!!.If I prune it , could it survive?
One of mine is doing the same - leaves a greeny brown, and looking very ill! I suspect it will shed its leaves, and if / when it does I will cut it back by half and hope it recovers. I do hope so - it is my favourite one, Donation.
lets keep in touch. In teresting relly as it never got lower than -6° last week and last year it was far colder so I'm sure it was dur to the mild weather just before which was far too early for camelias
Same here. Last year was a lot worse. I did transplant it four months ago, out of a pot and into a raised bed with ericacious compost, along with three others, all of which look fine. It was looking a bit peaky before the snow but the colour change has been dramatic since then. I am just hoping it hasn't succumbed to vine weevils - about the only thing that could kill it.
