Can anyone help? We have privet growing against a wall under an overhanging bay window. It fills a difficult spot very successfully, but has grown out too far now and makes passage difficult.
Does anyone know if I cut it back severely, will it regenerate? Also, when is the best time to do this?
Yes, you can prune it. Wait until the cold weather has gone, and signs of growth begin to show. Then I'd reduce it by half. Clean secateurs though.
I agree. Privet reacts very well to being cut back. My back garden is surrounded on three sides by privet.
