As I'm recovering from surgery for a slipped disc in my upper spine I can't actually do much gardening at the mo, so I've been having a trawl through old threads.
A lot of the good 'uns were OTGF but we also had some good ones on specific plants - loads on clematis, including this one with a handy accounting method for clemaholics - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
and this early one on sweet peas - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
and mustn't forget the heucheraholics - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
Then there were threads on hanging baskets -
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
Controversy has popped up occasionally with trolls, sock puppets and unpleasantness but here's one protest rallying thread of note demanding the reinstatement of Lottie who was innocent - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
One strange poster called WAV advocated racism against imported people and plants in the UK so we started escape threads -
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
and www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb... which led to strange hobbies and "craft" moments.
In honour of CB's notoriety and general fan club on here, Rhoda declared - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
and invited us all to a day trip to visit CB - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
and we also had the occasional party on the boards
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...
Of course, there were also lots of shorter threads giving specific advice and comments with the traditional good humour and generosity of posters on these boards but the above threads are the ones that stick in the memory for their spontaneity and fun.
I do hope your back recovers soon Obs. But in the meantime a big thank you for the links to these threads
For almost all of them I was lurking and printing them out on scrap paper at work for a laugh on the bus journey home (no computer at home)
Wonderful memories.
PS: I remember trying my best to like heucheras after reading the thread, but I never could. And wishing I had space for more clematis
Dunno where the thread is but...... all together now....
Alchemilla Mollis....Alchemilla Molliss

Obelixx I'm so sorry to hear about your back and wish you a speedy recovery. While I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I should really take the opportunity of your being confined to inactivity, to go round the garden taking notes of all my problems and questions.
Sorry just my cheeky way of letting you know how much your knowledge has been appreciated. Do get well soon
Grumpy old posters....
This is the thread where the written smilies started
Obs-I am glad you stared this so am adding the worm poo thread to your discussion as well
I've had a lovely time reading old stuff - thank you
So many people to think
Where are they now?
In the days when we were allowed to have fun, we also did some serious gardening talk., but i think it became a real community through the ffun threads., which is why so many of us kept in touch in other ways.
Juliets 40th Birthday party
One of the many Spartacus threads
I do miss Skarloey
Christmas consequences
Good work Lottie
(Had a little panic about Juliet's birthday being celebrated on 12 April !! - I guess it was in advance ). At least we all know how old she is now )
