It's becoming embarrassing to see a photo of a witch hazel in snow every time I login. Think of the Â鶹Éç's worldwide reputation for excellence.
It would take seconds to change it to a spring picture, even if you have to drag out a blog article from last spring and use that, for now.

Trillium I completely agree, you would think that an organisation the size and reputation of the Â鶹Éç could get the intern to change the picture every week.

PS did you do the lovely plants for the Great Dixter article?

I totally agree Trillium and Kate. We're still waiting for a result.
Hosts, I'd also request a change from the cyclamen at the top of the messageboard page which is not a traditional spring flower either, lovely as they are.

I have today sent a comment about the missing header that disappeared last week-the chance are that will not be put right either.
The hosts are still at the Christmas party.

Another little gripe is that the Plant finder has no spellcheck. Some plant/shrub names are difficult and I end up having to Google and they very kindly ask me did you mean........?..and instantly give me the correct spelling.

Google spoils us Even the Â鶹Éçs search facility is not user friendly.
I think we may just be lucky to have a message board from the last few responses.

Has no-one noticed the 'calendar' a little way below the banner.
It reads:
"Download this month's calendar and welcome December with a delightful Hamamelis vernalis." Implies it's the beginning of December.
TBH, I never look at anything on that page. It's so, er, useful.

The bottom line is that the Â鶹Éç shouldn't really be using licence payers' money to fund what is in effect a social forum.
It should be spending money on its primary remit - which is broadcasting.
A lot of people make some very good arguments to the effect that the Â鶹Éç has been trying to have its fingers in lots of pies, where it shouldn't really be.
If we create too much fuss they could easily pull the plug.

Gary I used to like the blogs that appeared on the homepage.
The whole thing is a bit odd, did they decide to offer a message board or was there a demand for it.
Presenters on all programmes are always referring to the website, is it an easy way out of saying do not contact us directly. How expensive is it to run a website? Should GW have a better webpage?

I thought the Beeb's remit was to educate, inform and entertain. This board does all those things

There were apparently at one time well over a hundred message boards now just seven-I would guess that this was an extension of the gardening sites when Â鶹Éç on-line was created and just natural progression.
It is old, creaky but fulfils its purpose and I cannot believe costs that much to run-enjoy what we have whilst we still have it.

Kate123 - if you mean, am I the Sue Beesley that did the planting plan for the Dixter border in the Grauniad last week, then yes.... I love the exotic garden at Dixter and have planted a smaller, adapted version of it here in Cheshire. Some plants do need winter protection, but I love the bold colours and shapes of it in late summer.
Took a bit of haggling as they initially wanted me to choose a selection from the plant list of their in-house plant supplier - but we got there in the end

It is lovely to see a planting plan that you feel that you can buy from your local GC/nursery. I felt inspired
