Has anyone noticed their dog eating this weed. ?
What do they get out of it ?
It must have a strongish smell as the dog can find it from several yards away.( sorry I refuse to go metric. )

My "new" dog does. This is the first one I've had which seems to prefer cleavers to other herby things - usually they seem to go for couch grass. "New" dog has only been here a few weeks - he's just over 12 months old, so I don't know whether this behaviour is something he's done before. I think perhaps not, as he'd spent the first 12 months of his life without access to the countryside. It was really funny to watch his reactions when he saw sheep, cattle etc for what I guess was the first time. It'll be interesting to see whether or not he switches to couch grass later in the year when the cleavers' growth isn't soft and new, as it is in the hedgerows at the moment. I guess that when it becomes harder and a bit scratchy he may eat something else instead.

If you google a bit for "cleavers herbal remedy" or something similar, you'll see that it isn't harmful and can be used for all sorts of things.

I've no idea as regards its scent - but someone once told me that if you were to compare a dog's sense of smell with ours it would be a bit like the difference in size between a postcard and a tennis court!
