I would appreciate any ideas from readers, on making part of my back garden, a memorial for my beloved dog, Sasha, a Border Collie, who we had to put to sleep, because of a stroke. I am an ex-pat from the North West of England, now living in Holland. My wife and I, are thinking of a White Rose bush. Any ideas, would be gratefully recieved. Thank you. VM.

How about a bed of mixed summer and winter heathers to remind you of the countryside of your past,

That is a shame -as you can see from my user name I am a dog lover myself
If I were too recommend one white rose it would always be "Iceberg" a white floribunda -have had one in the garden for years that was planted in memory of a previous dog-always covered in bloom in the summer
No doubt others will have their own suggestions

I agree with Geoff.
Your pain will eventually turn to happy memories - I don't know how that happens, but it does

These roses are in memory of my pets that have passed away over the years.

I`m sad for your loss, I know how you feel. I have a soft spot for Border Collies.
I can be a bit cynical with some people, but collies can get away with almost anything.
My old collie lies under the apple and crab apple trees. Lovely blossom in Spring, then in Autumn I collect up the windfalls into a terracotta bowl, and place it on her grave. The apples are like an harvest offering, and they are there for the wild life.
A collie, IMO, is a folksy kind of dog, not "posh", so the wildness with all the autumn leaves around, seems appropriate to me.
If you have enough room, and wanted a white rose, there is a shrub rose called Rosa alba maxima, Very fragrant, disease-resistant, but only flowers once a year.

Thank you ''Rainjustlearning'' for the pictures of the various types of roses. I like them all. They are lovely. Those, along with my favourite tulips, ''The Queen of nights'', will make a lovely memorial in my garden. Thank you. Vic, in Waalwijk, Holland.

Don`t know about you, Vic, but i think it`s impolite when 4 people have given you their experiences, and you single out just one person to thank.

I do apologise As-if. I'm not thinking straight right now. Only had my dog put to sleep on Thursday. I would like to thank yourself, and everyone who took the time to reply. Thank you all. I'm not an ignorany, or impolite person. Not my usual self at the moment. My apologies.

Thank you '' everhopeful '' for your post and comments. Much appreciated. I am originally from Bolton, and, give or take a year or two, the same age as your good self. Today I will start the ball rolling, concerning creating a memorial in my back garden. I would like to have it completed, and ready, for when my Iittle girl, is back home with us, from the crematorium. I am visiting a few garden centres today, so hopefully, I will get more ideas, as well as the ones that all the people sent me, to my original message.
Thank you all.

So sorry, Vic.
It's a heartbreaking time as I know only too well. My dogs, a German Shepherd and a Chow who died 10 and 11 years ago are buried in the garden in a far corner under some trees with spring bulbs on their graves.
At least you are keeping busy and still doing something for your beloved Sasha.

Thank you pottiepam. We visited a garden centre yesterday, and both my wife and I, fell in love with a white rose bush, as soon as we saw it.On arriving home, we noticed that the white Hyacinth we bought the day after Sasha passed away, had opened up, then a few hours later, we recieved a telephone call from the vet, telling us, we could bring our baby girl home. The Hyacinth blooming, was a welcome home Sasha. You are back were you belong.

Sorry, that should read 'and entered'. Why is it that I can see errors in the printed word but on screen I'm blind?
