hi red poppy verbena bonariensis a lovely plant and one butter flies love too
Hi Mister-grow-it-all,
My best bargain plant is Vinca Major (periwinkle). In my current garden, and the last, it grows well, in any position of light or shade, and flowers very well. It gives off lots of runners, which i just pin into the soil, where it makes a new plant, that once established, I just cut off from the mother plant and move to where I really want it. We have inherited a very large waterfall here, which sounds wonderfall, but has never been planted up, so when it's not on, just looks like an ugly pile of stones. The Vinca is spreading itself all over, and making its very own new plants in all the nooks and crannies. Free, pretty flowering plants everywhere. Bargain!

hi Yvieh: Vinca a great plant for a Difficult position i love the variegated ones
Hi Mister,
Yes, it's the variegated version I have and the flowers are a lovely bluey purple, that just keep on flowering. I've got one that has rooted itself right in the centre of a bright red dogwood, and works really well to fill the bare gound at the bottom and looks lovely against the red stems. A great freebie that has placed itself brilliantly.
I have a toad lily which I originally planted in the garden but it didn't do very well. Then I moved it to a pot and was delighted that it flowered non stop for months last year - the pot has obviously restricted it's growth as the flowers were tiny but still beautiful. I keep it by the back door and it makes me smile every time I see it. Oh, and I've discovered it roots really easily so I'm hoping to have a lot more this year!
Quite right Yvieh, Vinca has to be top of the list. from one small pot, we got ground cover, five meter long and one meter wide, and still going strong, in a matter of years.
Close second, the hardy geraniums which colonize whole difficult areas and need no maintenance.
Also alchemilla mollis
And thyme.

t and m have seed offer and free pandp on plants on line
My bargain today is a baby plant of Heuchera 'Creme Brulee'. I have one plant in a pot, but this seedling has floated along to a pot of tulips and been growing away quietly, without me noticing until today. Fab! I'll wait for the tuplis to do their thing, and then remove, and pot on this freebie.

I'm really pleased with two clematis cirrhosa's bought this time last year from T&M. They arrived just a couple of inches high. Almost freebie's at £4.99 P&P.
Not looking like they would survive a week both are thriving, filling out a trellis and several feet tall now.
Hello,
There has been many,
One of my favourites so far, is a plant that was given to me years ago- so not one that I got this year, but one that I'm reaping the rewards of now.
Ajuga repens or Bugle. I had it in a pot for years but planted out in the garden last Autumn. At this time of year, it's like a switch has been put on, it's growing and fast!
Lovely blue spires of spring flowers, but fantastic ground cover in any situation
( no weeds) So easy to propagate, loads of free plants.
The other bonus is that any cuttings don't mind being dug up and moved.
Brilliant
Growing plants from seeds, especially perennials has to be a bargain in years to come
I have a golden sage, which I bought for 50p in clearance when Debenhams sold pot plants. It didn't even have a label. It has sprawled across my herb patch and flowers beautifully.
Also my pasque flowers, which came free with a plant order. I would never have bought these, but they are so beautiful and furry looking I want to stroke them, and the flowers are a really unusual, almost black dark purple.
Mine's a Japanese Maple, with beautiful crimson red leaves throughout the year - I rescued it 8 years ago !!
