    Hi all,
Im a little early today with the write up and ive a good reason why,
Yesterday i continued to make the path from the court-yard and 45 feet across the Lawn to the pool,
I worked most of the day removing the soil/clay from one side of the now filled in path and then later planted 90 box on the one side i'd finished "ive still the opposit side to dig out & complete before the complete job is done"

But as the day came to an end and my back was telling me its time to call it a day!
I thought i'd better give these 90 box a really good watering to help settle them in,
and by around 9pm i'd watered the box and finished for the day.

Well last night we had one hell of a storm here, Lightning and then thunder and rain like ive not heard for a long time,

It was as i lay awake at 2-30am i thought thats sods law! ive spent time watering and just listern to that rain coming down.

And this morning's been no better, "But" the water butts are all getting filled ready for the next hot spell.

Well lets hope the sun shines later today and i can do some more box prep & planting.

    Till this evening, cheers.

Well this is one of the post taken off the thread for 6 days, can you see anything wrong with it???????????????????????

No the moderator didnt, But it was still taken off for 6 days,

What a load of waste of effort by those interested enough to try and make this forum interesting for gardeners,

I for one am wondering if its worth continuing to offer any help to those seeking help or trying to give the difference between the french ways of doing things compered to the english ways when all we seem to be spending time on is dealing with this out dated way of dealing with the lack of any way of talking to someone in the admin on a one to one basis ref complaints.

Admin! your going to end up with a forum dealing with anything "But gardening"

Have to agree with you there Punpun... someone started a thread which was more to do with the UK rioting than with gardening. Some people eh?

I'm not sure its worth you offering to help unless you do it via the clinic in reply to specific questions. Most people will consult an expert, or a book, or one of the official Â鶹Éç gardening blogs if they want to read a long post. You may be better off starting up your own blog (very simple to do) where interested parties can come to read and comment on it. I think on messageboards people prefer to exchange points of view rather than be lectured on stuff by someone who is not a professional but is merely giving their own opinion. That's what is good about the Garden clinic - you may get several different answers to your question and then choose which you think most suitable.

    Hope this helps

I agree with Plop that Punpun's style of posting is more suited to a blog than a message board.

The OP doesn't give much scope for discussion, debate or garden inspiration. He watered his plants and then it rained. What can anyone say?

As for interest in the French way of doing things, I have lived in France for 25 plus years so it's of no interest to me. I enjoy reading the message boards for information on the British way of gardening which I personally find much more inspirational.

    What do other people think?

Well, thanks to punpun, I have saved a fortune on materials. We've been making pathways in our garden with his roof tile idea, we have hundreds kicking about and I have been racking my brain to think what to do with them. So we cut down some trees for edging, smashed up loads of tiles and are working our way through making said path. I like recycling, recycling is good! Also I am interested in finding out about the french way of gardening as I am used to the British weather and not the extremes of temps we get here. In fact I came on here just now to ask punpun's advise on over wintering delphiniums and other perennials.

Probably never know now, cos doubt he will bother posting!!!

    Hi typoo

Do they not have message boards in France about gardening? I would have thought they would be more useful about local conditions etc. I guess we are luck in the UK having the Beeb although we do pay a licence fee for it.

No reason at all why Pun Pun shouldn't set up a blog, which might be more suitable for some of his postings - and still post on here surely?
Am I right in thinking that blogging is more about what you have been up to, and posting here a bit more give and take?

I can't see it matters much, as long as people don't get upset or annoyed.

I think some of the previous posters are being a little unfair. We can choose whether or not to read a person's posts, so don't read them if you don't like what he has to say. Sometimes I read them, sometimes I don't, it depends what sort of mood I'm in!

    Hi plop,
    Many thanks for your reply,
I do understand what your saying ref "professional's" But what is a professional?

It's someone who gets paid for their offerings, it's not always the case they have any professional qualifications, "take Monty" he's non, he was a jewler by trade but thanks to allan titch marsh's recommodation he got the job on gardeners world inspite of many fully awarded pro's with paper work to show as to their going to all sorts of lengths to get those "time served " certificates? They we're over looked in favour of Monty.

How offten "if anytime" do you see or hear of any so called "pro's giving advice on the engine operated machines most gardeners use in todays gardening????

CHAIN SAW'S A very dangerous tool to use and good guidence would be a very good help,
TRIMMER'S,? Again a much used garden tool that can if not used correctly take eyes out, and cause a lot of damage to the user???????????????

I'll tell you why these professional's dont ever give any advice on such topics,
because they're not paid to give such info,And they work from a wallet and not the heart when it comes to gardening,
I was helped from people who passed on all the skills they'd learnt "because i showed interest as a young man wanting to know! & not a penny exchanged hands but a lot of respect did.

and its thanks to gardeners such as myself that any help ref the use of these machines is given (no invoice sent, no fee required)

This my friend "plop, is what these forums are good for, people like myself can talk to the new to gardening and exchange ideas with the longer in the tooth gardeners without pretending tobe professional gardeners,

Yes you can read a book ref the subject! But did you know some people just have never read a book cover to cover? This dos'nt mean they're not entiled to have a hobby and the help if asked. Who knows one day they may just pass on good "tried and tested methods to others.

But once again plop, thanks for your reply.

I personally don't see anything wrong with punner's existing posts, and I agree with the point that many people who called themselves professional are not necessarily expert. Professional simply means that a person earns a living from gardening in some way. So some amateurs will be more expert, and have more experience, than some professionals.

Though writing a blog would be an ideal medium for punpun, if he wanted to do that. Have a look at this recent post on 'The Stubborn Gardener''s blog. It's just the sort of thing that punners writes:

There are many thousands of gardening blogs. There is a directory of most gardening blogs called Blotanical. These are the 100 most recently added blogs:

To see the first blog in that list, click where it says 'The Stubborn Gardener', and then maybe have a look at a few others.

Incidentally, the person who was putting up posts to his commercial blog last week is also a member of Blotanical. Members have a profile page where they can fill in a few details about themselves. That commercial blogger hasn't bothered to fill in any details. You can also see that he has been on Blotanical for 3 years, and in all that time has only sent 7 messages to other members on Blotanical. It doesn't make a very good impression.

I have 4 different blogs myself. Some bloggers write a post every day, some [like me] only post occasionally.

If anyone wants to have a go at blogging, just go to:
    and follow the instructions.

You do need to register a (free) Google account. You may need to have a mobile telephone number in order to do that. Blogger may try to send a message to that phone, to make sure you're a real person. I'm not sure what the current sign-up procedure actually involves.

You also need to think of an original name for your blog. When you're ready, Blogger gives you a little window, and it's JUST LIKE ENTERING A POST ON HERE, so you type or paste your words, then you click on 'Publish', and that's it.

You can include photos within a post if you want to. You can either use existing photos that you might have on PhotoBucket, by quoting the link, or you can upload new photos directly into the post. Uploading photos works similar to loading photos onto PhotoBucket.

You also need to tell the world about your blog. One way is to join Blotanical. You can also visit other blogs, and post comments on ones you like. Hopefully some of those bloggers will then visit yours. Although 'Stubborn Gardener' is only a fairly new blog, they've already found several people who want to chat with them.

Gary when you blog do you answer questions, is it a diary or are you hoping to be discovered? I read several blogs, one always replies to my comments even if it is just "thanks". I even read a couple of "commercial blogs" which alert me to new products which I don't mind as they are openly commercial.

I think that a forum is like going to the pub on your own, sometimes you chat ,or debate, sometimes you listen and sometimes you have one drink then leave.

I used to post once a month, diaryish, and gave the links on here, in a monthly photo thread that we used to run.

But I started getting into more thoughtful posts. I'm having a quiescent thinking period at the moment.

Many of the blogs I followed were those that started up at around the same time, and many have tailed off. If someone has been keeping an almost-daily diary, with photos, for a year, then quite a bit of effort is involved, and the novelty often wears off - or the person finds more absorbing interests. A few have stayed the course.

The blogs I find the most interesting are ones which are not primarily gardening.

If a reader adds a comment on a topic that's of interest, whatever it is, the blog owner often posts a reply. It's actually very helpful to the blog owner - to see that there are readers out there, and to discover what's of interest to readers.
