    Hi All,
Well the weather first, It's been a boiler here in france and so ive been doing the less manual sort of gardening and included in this was a request i got from a french lady dog walker yesterday.

How it came about was that this lady has walked passed our place for the last two years i know about and apart from the nod and the hello, we've never really talked, Well on saturday she asked if i could help the local animal rescue centre by making a hanging basket for the reception front doorway?

Well these people do a really great job, they never put a healthy dog to sleep & you'll see some really old dogs there.

So i thought what could i do that would have some inspiration to it,?
Something that would do the job but be in keeping with animals?

Ive had an old bird cage in my (never chuck anything away) work shop,

And so i filled it with geraniums, the ivy sort and i managed to get these to hang through the bars and bird cage door, and the two end's
we're the bird seed food holder once fitted,

When i'd finished i must admit it looked really good .
I took the cage to the rescue center and im pleased to say it was hung outside the doorway and ive had a call tonight saying how many visitors have liked the basket come bird cage.

    A day enjoyed by all.

    Regards Punpun.

    Hi Punpun
I think we Brits are a bit special when it comes to gardening. I live in West of Ireland and can see that my garden is different from the norm here. Last week, my husband was out the front and a neighbour was out walking, and stopped to admire the garden. She said that her mother had told her to walk the other way that day in order to see 'Pauline's garden'. I felt quite proud, and isn't it nice that other people derive pleasure from our efforts. Keep goin Punpun and excite the francais, sounds like you'll make a lot of friends this year.

    Hi horthit,
Really nice to hear from you and i must say that as far as the locals here go (french) if you cant eat it they dont really understand why garden??

But having said that i was really made up tobe asked to do the birdcage "basket "idea as ive found out im the first roast beef to be asked.

It was an experience day i wont forget just walking around the kennel area and seeing dogs that have had such a sad life,
One i noticed was old and seemed to have given up on life, i was told her owner had a very bad drink proplem and the dog was shut in a room 24 hours a day and didnt mix with other dogs or indeed like men,
the lady was put into a mental hospital and the dog has been in the rescue centre for the past 6 years,
If it was'nt for the fact that i have two dogs (one 14 years old "yorkie") I'd have taken that dog home with me to give it the last remaining time some love and peace, But i owe it to my older dog to ensure she finishes her days in both peace and saftey.

One things for sure, i know the the place i'll be going to when i next have a home to offer.

    Hi punpun,
The kennels sound a lovely place. I'm afraid when we went to Brtany a few years ago the dogs didn't seem to be well looked after. They were tied up outside often without water.
We were staying with friends there and we fed a lost dog for a few days. The owners turned up asking if we'd seen a dog. They were hunters and the dog had run off. Our friend meant to say ' We.ve been feeding your dog' but in his attempt at french it came out as 'We've eaten your dog'. They were horrified until they caught sight of their hound.

Yes i agree ref the french hunters and dogs, we have many times found dogs that have been left behind,

ref the hunting its a laugh, they have about 3 or 4 guns slung over their shoulders, blowing horns as they go , the dogs have bells attached to their necks, no wonder the animals run for dear life its the deafening sounds of these idiots arriving.

Im very anti killing any animal for the sake of so called sport, if anyone thinks or wants to prove their skills with shooting then targets are the sure way to see who's good and who's a load of rubbish,

Punpun how did you keep soil in the birdcage to plant the plants in?  Hi,
I used a coconut basket liner, with a plastic inner liner & a plant pot saucer filled with grit to collect some of the water.
    It worked fine, and infact (her who must be obeyed) wants me to make her one;

You're a very innovative man Punpun. It sounds really good and, of course, different.

Do you ever find time to sleep?!!
