    Hi all,
Again the weather here is hot/ sunny and perfect for what i call a split gardening day,

That means like the french you get up and outside early while the sun's not to hot around 7am, and by 12 noon it's time to stop until about 7pm when you can do more gardening if you like, Hence im doing this blog now.4pm- ish

Ive spent most of the first half of the day finishing off the patio,
It's full of all sorts of flowers "some" in flower & some justing growing away to flower later,

The "Boss" went to our open market this morning and came back with a boot full of plants, and so the pool area urns and pots will look really nice by the weekend.

I had a very nice surprise ref the mail,(USA Mail) it was 12 pks of seed's from a friend i made years ago while we both served in the forces and we've kept intouch with each other and he reads this forum.

I did say i wanted to use one part of the border of the orchard as a wild flower garden plot,
Well he's sent me wild flower seed's and so this border will be sown this next fex weeks and in 3 years time im hoping all will be a regular wild flower scene every year after 'Sown with french and american wild flower seeds.

he also sent a pkt of sweetcorn with a note saying this sweet corn is really tasty and easy to grow, So thats going in this evening on the second gardening phase (the night shift).

As i write this little lot ive the office window open and this room overlooks the lawn and all i can hear is the birds singing away and one or two of them chasing each other, (love is in the air).

Ive bird nesting box's around the garden 'some fixed to the house wall some to tree's in the garden and ive noticed everyone is rented just now,
So all those odd hours spent during the winter using waste wood to make these nesting box's was well worth while and ive noted in the diary for january next year to continue making a few more.

Oh i do wish i could let you hear the birds singing away just now! But we dont have sound delivery system or smell delivery on this site, "shame"

The only other bit of info i thought i'd mention is rose's,

This time of the year the larger garden centre's tend to have a rose week and for our newer members this is when the garden centre's go mad and display
a lot more rose's than they do as a norm and not only can you get a really good look at all the verious sorts of roses but the prices are a little bit cheaper for this weeks "Rose-Week,

I myself only buy roses that have a perfume smell to them, Now i know these cost more but to me their worth the extra.

Remember when your buying your rose to also ensure you give a little thought to the extra's,
I mean by extra's the stake and ties if a standard rose is your choice,
but no matter what rose you buy you'll need to give it the very best start in it's life in your garden you can,
So it's the root system your wanting to consider here, ie good size area dug out for these roots to be able to spread and indeed anchor them selves into the ground ready for the winds later in the year?

Also these roots need both slow acting feed (fish/blood/& bone) and good "very" good compost to live in, Manure both in the compost and also used as a mulch around the outside area (at the base of the stake) is in my opinion a must,
not only will it keep those newly planted roots cool and from drying out, "But it also acts as a slow feeding system everytime you water the base or it rains "food from the manure" gets into the soil and the roots.

It's whats you do for the roots under ground that provides the good healthy and also a good flower head above the ground.

So when you buy that new rose remember to buy the extra's and last but not least, "Water every evening for at least 8 weeks, do not let the roots dry out.

    Regards Punpun.
