Hi
i am looking for ideas and help in turning a garden belonging to a young man with autism and very high sensory problems into a place he can sit and find peace and tranquility.
where do I start ??
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP ?
Brenda
If he can hear and smell - lavender etc -all smelly plants - wind chimes, grasses to rustle and touch...
A safe water feature - bubble fountain?
Touchy feelly plants like Lamb's ears,Stipa tenuissima or Feather/pony tail grass and many other grasses;
smelly plants like lavender, rosemary, thyme, camonmile chocolate cosmos; bird table/feeders;
bright flowers like Marigolds, Hemerocallis or Daylilies, nasturtium, geraniums, Allium christophii, garlic chives, Jasminium offinicale or Jasmine (lots of different varieties)
- just be careful when choosing plants on toxicity as many children put fingers in their mouths after handling plants or eating them;
accessories like wind chimes, windmills;
seating areas with weatherproof cushions or maybe a hammock.
These are a few ingredients that come to mind, hope this helps.
I recall you mentioning the subject for charity last year. Are you starting again or do you want more charity?
