    Hi All,
Well i paid a visit to the garden centre today as i need to fill in a space in a rather large bedding area in the main garden,

As always i get carried away in the garden centre and some of the simple ideas anyone can do are there just looking back at you,

Im talking about the small window troughs (the plastic ones) and the very simple displays the garden centre staff have put together, pete daffs, a sprig of ivy and a bunch of musscari, these little troughs look so nice and i could see all kinds of simple to do your self ideas in the same way using the plants on sale there today.

The garden centre's are very good at offering these trough's etc ready made but you'll notice that all the items used are sitting there on the racks just waiting for you to buy them and make your own trough's etc at half the price
and once you've done one i'll guarantee you'll be bitten and doing more than one, "It's a bit like having a pair of prunners in your hand, you think of removing one little much unwanted shoot, & before you know where you are the wheel barrows full of clippings."

Have a look the next time your in the garden centre.

I had to pull myself away from just about everything and go and look for what i went in there for in the first place,

"A shrub to fill a space in the border bedding area that will look nice smell nice and as im going in hospital on the 15 until the 25th march and then so im told wont be doing any hard gardening for 10 weeks i needed to think back to such a shrub that would not need me falling over myself to get it going,

I new before i even got out of the car what i was looking for as ive used this shrub many times over the years and it's never let me down and is a good priced shrub to buy.

    Ribe,
Yes the good old ribe shrub,
It has nice leaves on during the summer and the smell is nice,
It's one of those shrubs that grows well in most soils and likes sun and shaded areas,
It looks good as a back drop for more colourful plants in front of it.

And so the choice was made and after inspecting the bottom of the tub it was to see if i could see any sign of roots poking through (i could see plenty)
and that the top had buds wanting to open (they do) I bought it and a bag of fertilizer (one with seaweed extract in it).

As the weather here is really nice and sunny again tomorrow it will be rehomed in the border and i hope become a long time item to be enjoyed.

If you like fresh currants, black/red or even white the new plants are in the garden centres now,

These really are value for money as you'll get enough currants this year to make a pie or mix in with your yogart, and after the first year your on your way as these plants will continue to produce a good crop if you feed them (all the currant family are big feeders but the more you feed them the bigger crop you get "So everyones a winner".

The only other bit of garden work done via me today was to place all the troughs ive had filled with tulips/pete daffs, crocus/ hyacinth/ etc and put them on the window cages and around the well? All these troughs have been living in the unheated greenhouse all winter and are now almost ready to burst into bloom.

You just cant beat a nice flowery show coming from all directions as you enter a house driveway.

    Regards punpun.
