    Rosa,
Most Paenia (Peony) bloom from May to July depending on which you grow.
This usually is about the time we here in the NE have a dose of high wind that knocks them down unless well staked.
Mine will go from opening to dropping in two weeks at the most, you can cut the flowers just as they are opening leave them in a very cool place for a day then put them in deep vases with water well up the stem after trimming the stem, they will last well that way.
My wife often asked why I grew them and the reply was I grew up with them and as a child I saw those huge blooms and fell in love with them.
They do not appear to earn their keep as some of the longer lasting flowers do but that is gardening for you.
It is the same with Lilium Regale, I grew up with a long row of them blooming in July and not lasting long but coming year by year.
I guess love has a lot to do with what we plant long or short lived.
    Frank.

I agree peonies are not in flower for very long. I had beautiful red ones at my previous home, and every year without fail as soon as the flowers opened we had a downpour that flattened them. I could have bet my life on it. smiley - smiley

Any recomendations for Peonies that flower in succession. I'd love some in my garden (which by the day more and more resembles a refugee camp/ark with plants everywhere!).

    K.J,
Peonies come in many varieties and there are probably even more now as plants men hybridise them.
I love them for their big blowzy flowers so grow Rubra and Rosa which are large flowered.
Some of the singles Krinkled white (white to cream), Mother of Pearl (pink), Argosy (yellow) will probably bloom at different times though it would be best to contact a dedicated grower.
For those interested, Zeus turned Paean into a Paeonia to save him from the wrath of Asclepius hence the name.
In a discussion a couple of weeks ago one of the posters said they grew Peony in pots, I had never heard of that but why not try it.
    Frank.

Thanks for the last paragraph. I love Greek mythology and used to know all the myths by heart.

    K.J,
That is the outcome of a Teacher versed in Legend who spent more time teaching us the tales of the ancient gods than he did chemistry.
Then being posted to the desert followed by Cyprus with a lot of time to kill so reading the histories of those places, staring at wondrous starry skies whilst on guard duty made one wonder.
Many plants and flowers have links with the Myths although in modern times they are more likely to be the names of the plant hunters who brought them to us.
    Frank.
