    Hi all,
Seeds by mail order has sometimes been a worry, ie will they send what i ordered?
What if my order gets lost?
Can you trust such and such a company?

And last but not least, has anyone any true experience of dealing with mail order and had a problem.

Well i myself deal with mail order but living here in france and dealing with an U.K seed company and a seperate U.K. bulb company i feel i can write an honest statement for both companies.

Im not allowed by the rules of the forum to give names /address etc but i can say that this week i'd not recieved my order for seeds worth £96-48pence.

Now i know the weather back in the U.K. has been bad very bad and i was'nt sure if i should get intouch with the seed company (T&M) but as ive delt with this company for years &years and ive never had one complaint "I thought it only correct to play by the rules and let them know ive not recieved the order.

I sent them an "E" on thursday" morning, by 4 pm the same day i got a reply telling me i should have had the order and not to worry they've sent by express delivery a replacement plus £ 10-00 credit note.

It really is a nice feeling to deal with a good company such as T&M

I know we have a lot of ex-pats living in france and it's to be expected that a lot will be into gardening,
I hope this experience ive just had gives you comfort knowing that at least one mail order company are as good as their word.

    P.S.
The seed catalogues are one of the free best ever form of information you can get,
Not only do they tell you the best times to sow /soil condition's/height of the fully grown plants etc etc,
they'll also tell you if your buying a hardy plany when fully grown or a half hardy, if the plant likes full sun or shade etc.

You can learn a lot from the "Free" seed catalogues.

    Punpun

T&M are very good and have used them for years. Never had a problem

I tend to get most of my seed now through the various plant societies I am a member of. I also donate a lot of seed as well

What I have found is that there are a number of people now who supply small amounts of seed collected from their own plants on e-bay. I have found most of these small suppliers to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

Are there no seed suppliers in France? I have had seed from Holland before and it was very good and germination was excellent. Have you had a look over there?

    Hello punpun,
It always makes my day when a seed catalogue arrives. T&M was the first seed company I ever used. Still use them but my orders are smaller and smaller every year. I'm depending more on two companies here in Canada.and one in South Carolina. Seeds arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. With T&M I have to have my orders in very, very early because the wait is months. They are a good company. That's where I found my Black Russian Tomato seeds.

Hi John, if you like unusual tomatoes try nickysnursery.com, they have hundreds of modern and heritage varieties, and very reliable.

    Hello mummyduckegg,
Thanks I'll give nickysnursey a look. I'm trying the purple Cherokee this year. An heirloom out of Tennessee. Suppose to have a smoky flavour.

Last year, on this forum, there was a lot of fuss from people complaining about late delivery of seeds. That was in late Spring.

I ordered my seeds from T&M, a couple of weeks ago, and they arrived within 4 days. I almost posted a message on here, to that effect.

It is a good idea to order seeds this side of Christmas, or at least early January, and not leave things until the very last minute.

    Hi gary,
I thought they had a Canadian branch but I don't know now. I ordered my seeds 2 months ago On Friday a package arrived out of New York, with a Canadian address on the invoice. 2 packets of seeds and I continue to wait for the rest as they have been back ordered. But I actually go to my other seed companies when ordering the seeds that I need to germinate early. Usually with T&M I order in Sept. I was a little late this year.

I use Chilterns. Quick delivery, huge range. Must say not large quantities of some seeds, but still rate them.

I use "Sutton's" they have never failed me yet I can strongly recommend them, if they haven't got in what you order they send what they have and then when they get stock in they post them on to you at no extra charge.

    Hi ALL,
Well what a day, (weatherwise) it's freezing and to giveyou an idea how cold
"I came back from our walkies" and all i can say is that im glad im not a brass monkey?? Say no more.

Ref the seeds, as always its really nice to get a nice feed back and im going to give suttons seeds a go (thanks rainjustleeaning)

ref seed supply here in france! "Yes" you can buy all kinds of seeds in the garden centre and i must add you get a hell of a lot more seed per packet than ive got with some U.K. seed's
when it comes to thompson & moragn seeds you can buy them here in the garden centre "but not all the variety you get in the U.K." and they tend to be more costly.

As i once said "we are creatures of habbit and im no exception " so i tend to keep with the companies i have delt with for years,
But having said that, i will try Suttons.

Well folks i really do enjoy the garden and all that it brings (including weeds) and gardeners i can talk to who are in the same frame of mind.)
