I really want to buy a cold frame or a small greenhouse for my plants. I saw a cold frame from gardsman the other day that I thought might do the trick. It has a wooden frame and polycarbon, 400x1000x650 with a hinged roof, but after speaking to a colleague at work I am wondering if I should get something that more like a small green house/growhouse as it wouldn't have the problem with tall plants.
What are your experience of cold frames/grow houses?

i have both but only use the green house cold frame naver real used but keep it just in case
I wouldn't be without my GH now although this is only the first year. I've still got a small plastic one with four shelves.
After sowing seeds when the time comes to pot up space becomes a premium. Having a plastic GH gives you more room for plants, when not needed it can be dismantled and you can also take the shelves out for tall plants although less sturdy it far more versatile than a cold frame.
It seems like the space argument is going to win the day. It makes more sense and saves on space. Problem now is more price. They are quiet pricey as I don't trust the plastic ones. My garden can be very windy and things tend to blow over.

harrods horticulture i seen nice ones in there ,
If being in a windy location is a problem you may have no option but to go for a stronger constructed plant house/cold frame which would need to be anchored to the ground.
I found the plastic GH was fine during the spring and summer whilst full of trays/plants but did get blown over at least once, October/November time when it was almost empty, I tied it to the drain pipe and came to the conclusion nothing was safe being over wintered in it.
