what plants do you recommened for winter interest, i have just purchased dogwood for the front garden, i have many grass plants in there too from last year, that will provide interest along with my winter flowering jasmine and pyracanthus, and heavenly bamboo, as well as photinia red robin shrub, what else could i bring in for winter interest
in my baskets i like to use heathers, i don't use winter pansies as they only do well in autumn and spring etc

Heucheras- lots of colours available. They cope pretty well with Winter & you will need to do a tidy up of tatty leaves around Feb. Under planted with little Spring bulbs & Agugas to trail over the pot edge- lovely. I have 3 large tubs permanently planted with them & need to pot up/plant out some 'babies' of both this weekend.
Have you tried Violas instead of Pansies? Last year mine survived even with the snow/frost & carried on flowering, almost non-stop until the very dry weather in June. I agree that Pansies 'stop' during the coldest time, but these violas definitely coped better.
Have just bought a new batch for this year & also grown some from seed. J.

Hi, just realised that no one has mentioned hollies. I have several in my garden including the variegated varieties. I let the birds have the berries, or should I say, there are none left by Christmas. Hollies look good in rain or snow and on days that are just dull.
Summer
got 2 hollies in the front already

you might not like dwarf conifers but I'm very fond of my Pinus mugo 'Wintergold'. It's dark green all summer but turns bright golden yellow all winter. I've got that in a prominent place so viewed from a window.
Choisya 'Goldfingers' is hardy, good for pots - withstands prolonged freezing, and a bright yellow colour all year.

Mahonia for any aspect in a garden and Acacia dealbata if you have a protected corner.
They both bloom in the very dead of winter, are perfumed and on any sunny days the solitary bees emerge to feed on the flowers.
