    Hi,
    Well again a smashing day here, the suns been out all day and its hot hot hot!

    But having said this the heat for anyone who's not at home to do the mid day watering of window box or hanging baskets this can be like going to a funeral everytime you inspect your baskets etc when you return from work.

    If you want a constant display in such places as the window trough / baskets etc?
    Please let me try to help.

    I have a really good display from every window and the hanging baskets around the verious doors etc of my house, "and i dont always have time to do a mid day watering.

    I use "geraniums" these plants are what i call a dry plant ie they dont like a lot of water and would rather have dry feet than soaking feet.

    The best results are by planting side by side plants in the same trough/basket, these plants like company and dont do well if they are spaced to far apart,

    tomato feed the feed ive used for years and i feed mine a weak feed every 3 days and a mist spray every morning before the sun comes out,
    Comprey is a very good feed for geraniums and again a weaker feed is better than a strong feed.

    The other good thing about geraniums is that you can take cuttings "now" and these cuttings once they've rooted can be used as winter house plants.

    So if like the french you like your home to have that feeling of colour? But without to much care!
    give the geranium's a try "you'll not be sorry you did;

    Hello punpun. I agree with your take on the geranium. I'm in southern Alberta Canada, if it was any drier here it would be desert. This year plenty of moisture though. My baskets and boxes of ivy geraniums still look great and my zonals are blooming like crazy. I do take cuttings from one ivy and one zonal because I have no name for them. The zonal came from cuttings from my neighbor whose mother started taking cuttings over 70 years ago from one plant she had.

    Hi John,
    This is the thing about gardening as a hobby, it's so friendly, people giving cuttings, the odd plant, and tips on how they've always done things.

    If a few people just slowed down and gave nature a chance i swear the world would be a better place.

    One of my french niebours gave me a tip ages ago ref using icing sugar to aid cuttings to take (just dip the cutting into the icing sugar)

    I hope im still passing on tips ive been handed down when im in my 70's

    been nice talking to you.
